Shaun Johnson is a new addition to The National GEM Consortium as Executive Assistant to the CEO. Most recently, Shaun worked as the Executive Administrator of Dawson & Associates, a lobbying and government relations firm located in Washington, DC.
Shaun graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and has a heart for education. He also worked at North Carolina A&T State University where he was the Administrative Support Specialist to the Director of Alumni Affairs. After 8 years with Dawson & Associates, Shaun wanted to find work that was more than just work – something that was meaningful and served the community, in particular communities of color. Shaun’s passion for education and civic responsibility has intersected with his arrival at GEM.
In his spare time, Shaun is active in his church, enjoys reading autobiographies, and spending time in the kitchen cooking and baking. In his former life he was a singer and thespian, having provided background vocals for the late Aretha Franklin, Jennifer Holliday, various D.C. artists, and has performed in musicals with Stephanie Mills, Reginald VelJohnson, Dorian Harewood, and others. He also spent time as a foster parent with the District of Columbia’s Child and Family Services Agency.
