GEM is a unique and powerful connection to a national network of universities and employers (corporations and national laboratories). GEM connects highly qualified students from primarily underrepresented groups to STEM graduate programs with much-needed financial support that is often the deciding factor in pursuing graduate education.
The GEM model is a pay it forward system. Just as others believed in you and supported you, so it is expected that you remain an active participant in the community and give back to the next generation in whatever way works best for you.
The GEM Alumni Association (GAA) works in synch with the organization to ensure that there are opportunities for alumni to engage with each other, fellows as well as other URMs in STEM to build a robust, supportive community.
For the past four decades, GEM alumni have been crafting a narrative of black and brown excellence both within and outside of STEM. These journeys chart a pathway that the next generation of fellows eagerly follow.
