Dr. Oscar Martin is a business-savvy innovation executive with over 20 years of experience at leading industrial corporations. He is currently the Senior Vice President for Global Innovation for TekniPlex, Inc. where he has corporate responsibility for global R&D and new product development. Tekni-Plex, Inc. is a multi-billion dollar material science innovator of consumer and healthcare products, best known for medical devices and sustainable food packaging solutions. Prior to joining Tekni-Plex, Dr. Martin spent 20 years at DuPont, where he served in numerous leadership capacities in R&D, marketing, and supply chain management within various businesses. He also served as Vice President of Innovation at Klockner Pentaplast GmbH. He holds five international patents in his name, over 100 patents granted under his leadership, in addition to the development and commercialization of over 200 new products for consumer, medical, industrial, and military applications.
Dr. Martin is the recipient of numerous academic and industry awards including being inducted into the University of Tennessee College of Engineering Hall of Fame, University of Alabama Distinguished Engineering Fellow, VCU Alumni Star recipient, and American Chemical Society Team Innovation Award. Martin also has a passion for mentoring STEM students and developing the next generation of STEM professionals as exhibited by the following board appointments including VCU College of Engineering Board of Trustees, VCU Chemical Engineering Advisory Board, and Virginia State University Industry Advisory Council.
Dr. Martin obtained his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Virginia Commonwealth University, MBA from Tennessee State University, master’s in chemical engineering from the University of Tennessee, and bachelor’s in chemical engineering from the University of Alabama.
Oscar resides in Richmond and is married to Loren and have two children Malia and Oscar III. In his spare time, he is an avid salsa dancer and watches college football.
